Medical Laboratory Technology is an integral part of the medical care system. Clinical laboratory testing is crucial to detecting and diagnosing diseases. Medical laboratory personnel work behind in the scenes, running the tests to help doctors diagnose illnesses and make decisions about patient treatments. These technicians examine and analyze body fluids, tissues and cells. They look for bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms. People in this field use automated equipment and sophisticated instruments capable of performing a number of tests simultaneously. Medical technologists work in five major areas of the laboratory i.e. in Blood Banking, Clinical Chemistry (chemical analysis of body fluids), Hematology (blood related), Immunology (study of immune system) and Microbiology (study of bacteria and other disease organisms). They also work in the areas of cytotechnology (study of human tissue), phlebotomy, urinalysis, coagulation, parasitology and serology.

The course structure is supplemented with special Personality Development sessions to prepare students for the industry. Proficiently designed Personality Development Modules give emphases on Interpersonal & Leadership skills and Communication skills. Students are also provided with basic computer training.

Career Opportunities
A certified medical laboratory technician may find a challenging career in public and private sector hospital, minor emergency centers, laboratory, blood donor centers. The demand for laboratory technicians is on the up-swing. With adequate knowledge and experience, Medical Laboratory Technologists can advance to supervisory or management positions in laboratories and hospitals. A Laboratory Technologists can also run private pathology laboratories. Teaching in medical colleges and institution is also a very good option.
